The Farne Islands attract an enormous number of a variety of birds in the breeding season. Luckily, when we went there were still a good number. We sailed around the Islands, and landed on Inner Farne.

Tide mark on one of the small islands.

Lighthouse on one of the islands.

Inner Farne.

The old chapel on Inner Farne.

The old pele tower on Inner Farne. We couldn't go in because the warden lives there.

All the following photos were taken by my brother-in-law, with his swanky camera.

Seal pups. They do have dog-like faces! There were masses of seals on the Islands.

Puffins! Both I and my step-mother went to the Islands primarily to see puffins. I'd wanted to see them ever since I was a child, when I read Enid Blyton's Sea of Adventure. I expected them to be bigger. They are cute.

Puffin taking off from the water.

Puffins flying. They don't glide much, but constantly flap their wings.

You can just see a puffin in the middle of the grass, by its burrow.

Puffin with fish or sand eel.

Gorgeous as usual! Love old chapel with the stained glass and the Gothic arches. The carving is stunning. ♥

I'm glad you liked them. I should have taken more interior photos. I found that my brother-in-law had taken almost exactly the same shots as I had.

Oooooooh! Seals and puffins! That's AWESOME, karen9! All of the pictures your brother-in-law took are fabulous, especially the ones of the seals on the rocks and that last photo of the puffin in flight! :-) Of course, I also love all the pictures of Inner Farne itself. It seems like such a wonderful atmospheric place! It's hard to pick a favourite photo as I'm a sucker for lighthouses, old towers and stained glass windows!

We saw only two people who live on Inner Farne, and their purpose is to protect it's creatures. I find such places have their own special atmosphere.

If I'd known you were keen on stained glass windows I would have taken more photos on my visits!

Only two people on Inner Farne -- that really boggles the mind! I'm glad that these two individuals are willing to stay and protect the island's creatures. :-)

No worries about not having more pictures of stained glass windows. You should take photos of the subjects that interest you. And I was very happy to see the stained glass window you did photograph because it's beautiful. :-)

We only saw two people, but there must be the warden as well. The two young men had recently completed their studies. They have to do some manual work, such as repairs to gates,as well as to give information to visitors.

I know I did take at least another couple of photos of stained glass windows, but I'll also check out my b-in-laws photos for more!
