ACTA

Have a look at what the European Commission has to say about ACTA.
http://ec.europa.eu/trade/creating-opportunities/trade-topics/intellectual-property/anti-counterfeiting/

They say ACTA is not for monitoring individual Internet usage nor will they shut down websites. Sounds okay, but -----

It sounds to me as if YouTube will be in trouble. I don't know how livejournals and tumblrs will be affected. Caps, icons, videos - are they all "infringements" of intellectual property laws? What about fan fiction?

I've had such enjoyment over the last few years using lj, finding friends I never would in RL, browsing tumblrs for pics and reading fan fiction. It's wonderful that people can share so much through these forums. To be cut off would be so hard.

I don't know but it worries the hell out of me. All my friends and fandom interests on LJ mean the world to me, I don't know what I would do if they shut it down. Here's hoping the powers that be realize that if they try to shut down fandom with its fanfic and fanart that they will be doing more damage than good. Fandom is what keeps their movies and TV shows alive and makes them more profit in the end, but the question is are they smart enough to realize that? :|

I'm worried about ACTA too -- ACTA and the other intellectual property laws that various governments are trying to enforce. It would be horrible if people could no longer express their creativity and passion for a fandom because such things as caps, icons, vids and fanfiction have become "infringements".
